a closure
yesterday marked a closure for our contact rugby experience.
i must say it's been a really fruitful journey for me. we started off scared and rather excited. i still can remember our first ever contact training as though it were yesterday. coach taught us how to fall. we were scared yet excited cos we didn't know what to expect. as the trainings progressed, it got tougher. our pts increased successively and we became even more afraid to tackle and to fall. all that subsided the minute we stepped on the field for our first ever contact friendly and we realised the joy of tackling someone to the ground and running as far as our legs could take us. since then, we've been less apprehensive about training and we really enjoyed ourselves minus the mud and the lack of toilet facilities at farrer park.
then all these trainings and skills learnt boiled down to yesterday. 4 matches to be exact. i remember yesterday morning, i was so scared to go onto the field and face the tough opponents, some of whom were bigger size and more experienced than us. but once i got on the field, i know i couldn't let fear get the better of me. somehow, i had to make the fear subside. we did get off to a slow start, possibly due to nerves but it improved there after and we emerged as plate champions. to be honest, i can't believe we won rp. i thought before that it would be impossible since they seemed like gods. now that we did it, i feel a sense of accomplishment and pride for the team. i'm so proud of the team because we stuck it out. i saw all the aggression, hunger for the ball and the determination and passion within each and every one of us. i could tell that we wanted the mother huge and would settle for no less. i'm just so proud to be part of the njc touch rugby team. thank you so much for roughing it out together and encouraging one another all the way.
as for team 2, i think you guys make me proudest! it was so heartwarming to watch you guys play your hardest and bestest out on the field. you guys held such a solid defence line and kept hitting up at the opponents. you were the ones that gave us the confidence and passion to face the gods. it was you who defeated them first. despite not having much experience, you guys showed an immense fighting spirit and team dynamics. i'm really so proud of you guys and so proud to be part of the same team as you guys! to bao, mu, nat and ghis. you guys are the bomb! i could see you guys try your hardest and bestest to bring the team together and pull through. watching you guys play made me swell with pride and i was really proud to be! don't be sad you guys didn't get anything because to me, you guys deserve so much more than a trophy. you guys really rocked the field and i love you guys to bits! keep going :)
so there. yesterday, the few hours at pioneer sec marked a closing chapter for our contact rugby experience. all in all, it was muddy, tiring, exciting, scary and fulfilling. it was the experience of a lifetime and i'm glad to have gotten this opportunity and so blessed to have shared it with the best people in the world -- the njc touch rugby team, whom i'm proud to say are my team mates :) for now, this marks the beginning of a new touch rugby season. go guys! we can do it! it's training training training from now on! keep going guys :)
